Coxswains are a valuable member of the boat! An effective coxswain is beneficial for the team and for your development as a rower. This clinic will emphasize the safety aspects of coxing, drills, assessment of rowers and oars within the boat, and coxing for competition. Grand Rapids coaches and coxswains will be leading this clinic, sharing their insights, experience, and knowledge with us. Lauren Keough, an experienced coxswain in both collegiate and masters racing, will discuss the details of competitive coxing.
Each participant will get the opportunity to practice commands and drills on indoor rowers and in a boat (weather and water conditions permitting). Handouts will be provided to each participant, and there will be a display of common coxswain tools, including the cox box, headset, rigging tools, spacers, and more, with demonstrations.
Join us on Saturday, April 12th 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm to learn about the ins and outs of this important seat in the boat.
Please share your travel plans with us! The Comstock Park area has two excellent hotels, and downtown features a variety of great restaurants and attractions. Our club would love to host a group of rowers on the water Saturday afternoon for anyone who wishes to stay a little longer and enjoy some time on The Grand.
