Coxswain Clinic

Coxswains are a valuable member of the boat! An effective coxswain is beneficial for the team and for your development as a rower. This clinic will emphasize the safety aspects of coxing, drills, assessment of rowers and oars within the boat, and coxing for competition. We are pleased to have guest coach, Tom Weber, from NMRC, sharing his insights, experience, and knowledge with us. Lauren Keough, an experienced racing coxswain, will speak to specifics on competitive coxing. Each participant will get the opportunity to practice commands and drills on indoor rowers and in a boat (weather and water conditions permitting). There will also be handouts for each participant. A display of common coxswain tools will be shown and demonstrated – cox box, headset, rigging tools, spacers, etc.

Join us on Sunday, April 28th from 10 am to 2 pm to learn about the ins and outs of this important seat in the boat.

Let us know if you’re coming in the night before. For those who are traveling from further away, Grand Rapids Rowing would love to host a group of rowers in boats on Saturday afternoon (for those arriving early) or Sunday after the clinic.
